Logging All of the Forest
Join us at Western Sullivan Public Library as Glenn Pontier presents an interesting historical lecture on Wednesday, October 4th at 4:30pm at our Tusten-Cochecton Branch.
From the time European settlers discovered the Upper Delaware region until the present day - every tree was cut down. Here's the story of the people who lumbered the forest - sending some by rafts to Philadelphia, using the Hemlock bark to tan leather, and cutting trees for everything from barrel hoops to baseball bats. The presentation includes stories about legends Johnny Darling and Boney Quillan, as well as the lives of ordinary folk.
Since 2019, Glenn Pontier has been the co-director of the TMR Scout Museum. A history major in college, he was previously the director of the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor, executive director of Sullivan Renaissance in Ferndale, public information officer for the County of Sullivan in Monticello, news director for WVOS Radio in Liberty, and long-time editor of The River Reporter in Narrowsburg. He lives along the Delaware in Minisink Ford.
