Exploring the Deep Web

Where did I come from? Who was my first ancestor to go to college? What book should I read next? What car is best? How much does Amazon pay their workers, and do they like their jobs? These are all questions that can be answered by looking in a database that you have free access to with your Western Sullivan Public Library card. Come learn all about how to access databases like HeritageQuest, Ancestry.com, Consumer Reports, NoveList, Glassdoor, and many more! The Public Computer Center is hosting two information sessions; on Tuesday, January 22nd from 5:30-7:30pm at the Delaware Free Branch in Callicoon, and on Monday, January 28th from 5:30-7:30pm at the Tusten-Cochecton Branch in Narrowsburg. Registration is required for this event and enrollment is limited - be sure to register early. Programs with fewer than 5 people pre-registered may be cancelled.  To register visit the library online at WSPLonline.org . For more information visit our website or call (845) 887-4040 (Callicoon) or (845) 252-3360 (Narrowsburg).

The Public Computer Center also has two programs that recur every month; Jeffersonville Robot Club and Open Technology Support. Open Technology Support is a time for patrons to bring their various devices into the library to get one-on-one support from Abram VanHassel, the library’s Multimedia Technician. Open Support Hours are on Mondays at the Delaware Free Branch in Callicoon from 1-4pm, Wednesdays at the Tusten-Cochecton Branch in Narrowsburg from 4-7pm, and Fridays at the Jeffersonville Branch in Jeffersonville from 10am-1pm. There is no registration process for Open Technology Support and patrons are helped in the order they arrive.

The Jeffersonville Robot Club is a monthly gathering for older children and teens, ages 8 and up. On January 30th, the last Wednesday of this month, at 4:30pm the Robot Club meets at the Jeffersonville Branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library to assemble various robotic kits, provided by the library. These kits teach the children valuable aspects of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math). Since the library supplies the robotic kits for the students, registration is limited to only 10 students each month and the registration is first come, first served. Patrons can register online at wsplonline.org or by calling the Jeffersonville Branch at (845) 482-4350.
